Folks living along Alabama’s Coastal Connection have always made their living from the land and the sea. Southern Mobile and Baldwin Counties have an agricultural heritage as rich as the soil. And along the water’s edge, where the land was too sandy to farm, recreational areas grew.
Also along those shores, fishermen provided a bounty of seafood from the bays and the Gulf of Mexico. Today, much of that fishing and farming lifestyle can still be found along the byway. In addition, there are now outstanding facilities dedicated to exploring and interpreting the life-sustaining relationships between the land, the sea and the people.
